Recently, the 18th World Congress of Anesthesiologists (WCA) was held in Singapore, attended by thousands of representatives from around the globe. The anesthesiology team from PUMCH, including Director Shen Le, Deputy Director Pei Lijian, Tian Yuan, Xu Xiaohan and He Yumiao, were invited to participate. They played important roles in various aspects such as conference preparation, global anesthesiology development, keynote speeches, and poster presentations, showcasing their academic strengths.

As the Deputy Chair of the WFSA (World Federation of Societies of Anesthesiologists) Safety & Quality of Practice Committee and a Board Member of the Asian Australasian Regional Section, WFSA, Director Shen Le was invited to participate in WFSA Board election, bylaw revision, safety and quality discussions, revision of the WHO Anaesthetic Facility Assessment Tool (AFAT), and other work meetings. At the invitation of the WFSA Scientific Programme Committee, he is also fully involved in the preparation of the safety and quality section for the WCA2026.

Deputy Director Pei Lijian was invited to present the PUMCH experience in anesthetic management of parturients with pulmonary hypertension and report clinical research findings on perioperative hypothermia. She also chaired the poster presentation session on obstetric hemorrhage and the academic report session on perioperative and ambulatory anesthesia.

At this WCA, 1,231 anesthesiology research abstracts were accepted, with more than 10 from the PUMCH anesthesiology team. The abstract “Targeting Ferroptosis by Propofol Injectable Emulsion Protects Hepatocytes against Ischemia/Reperfusion Injury” by postdoctoral fellow Sun Chen was awarded “Best Research Abstract: Basic Science”. The abstract by postdoctoral fellow Zhao Yifei won second prize in the Pain track. Attending physician Xu Xiaohan had 4 abstracts accepted, with one winning third prize in the Education category. Tian Yuan and He Yumiao were also invited to present their abstracts.

The PUMCH anesthesiology team shone at the WCA and received unanimous praise from experts attending the congress.
